AI SEO Expert in Kanpur for Manufacturers, Exporters and Startups
If an overseas buyer asks Perplexity or ChatGPT for leather goods manufacturers in Kanpur, the answer names a few companies and cites a few pages. I help Kanpur exporters, mills, engineering units and IIT Kanpur startups become one of those names, working remotely from Damoh in Madhya Pradesh. The first step is a short call where we list the buyer questions that matter to you.

How Kanpur's buyers now find suppliers
Kanpur's larger customers rarely search "leather company Kanpur" and click ten links any more. A sourcing manager in Germany asks an AI assistant for a shortlist of vegetable-tanned leather suppliers in India with export experience, reads the summary, and then visits two or three websites. The shortlist is decided before your site is opened.
That matters more here than in most cities because so much of Kanpur's business is B2B and long-distance. The city is still called the "Leather City of the World" and, from its mill era, the "Manchester of the East".
Leather: Jajmau and the move to a new park
The tannery cluster at Jajmau, on the Ganga, has been through closures over pollution rules, and the state has proposed relocating tanneries to a Mega Leather Park at Ramaipur. Every change like this creates a gap between what is true today and what old web pages say. An AI answer built from a 2019 news report may still describe your unit as shut. Buyers read that. Getting current facts on your own site, in plain text, is the cheapest protection you have.
Textiles and the old mill names
The British-era mills, such as the Cawnpore Woollen Mills behind the Lal Imli brand, left behind famous names and a lot of confused history online. Newer textile and garment units often share street names or brand words with those older companies. When two entities sound alike, AI engines sometimes merge them. I've seen this pattern in other cities, and the fix is the same: a precise About page, consistent registration details and markup that says exactly who you are.
Engineering units and IIT Kanpur startups
Factories in the Panki industrial area and other UPSIDA estates sell components, chemicals and packaging to buyers who ask very technical questions. Meanwhile, the Startup Incubation and Innovation Centre at IIT Kanpur, set up with SIDBI in 2000, has incubated hundreds of companies in medtech, AI, clean tech and defence. A founder's first enterprise customers increasingly check a startup through ChatGPT before a demo call.
Local search has its own flavour too. Distributors and retailers in Uttar Pradesh search in Hindi and Hinglish, such as "Kanpur mein safety shoes ka wholesale supplier". Both kinds of question deserve a page that answers them.
What each AI engine actually reads
Every major answer engine retrieves live web pages and summarises them. Your goal is to be among the pages it retrieves, and to be quoted correctly when it does. The table below is how I explain the differences to clients.
| Engine | How it finds pages | What I check first |
|---|---|---|
| Google AI Overviews / AI Mode | Google's normal index. Google says no special optimisation is needed beyond being indexed and eligible for a snippet. It may split one question into several searches (query fan-out). | Indexing in Search Console, snippet controls such as nosnippet, product and capability pages that answer sub-questions |
| ChatGPT search | OpenAI's OAI-SearchBot crawler, plus third-party search partners | robots.txt and firewall rules allow OAI-SearchBot; GPTBot can be blocked separately if you don't want training use |
| Perplexity | PerplexityBot index plus Perplexity-User fetches at question time | Pages load without JavaScript tricks; facts like MOQ, certifications and lead times appear as text |
| Gemini | Can ground answers in Google Search | Same index health as Google, plus a complete Business Profile |
Notice that none of these rows says "special AI file" or "GEO plugin". Google has said llms.txt neither helps nor harms in its systems. The work is ordinary technical SEO done carefully, plus writing that states facts a buyer can verify.
A common Kanpur problem: product details sit inside PDF catalogues or image banners. A buyer's AI assistant may not read them at all. The same specs as an HTML table get quoted.
Entity consistency for exporters
An exporter usually exists in many places: the company website, IndiaMART and TradeIndia listings, an export promotion council directory, LinkedIn, a Google Business Profile for the factory, and trade-fair exhibitor lists. If the company name, address and product focus differ across those, AI systems may treat them as separate firms or merge you with a competitor of a similar name.
- One canonical company name and legal name, written the same everywhere
- One factory address and one head-office address, clearly labelled
- Organization markup on the site with sameAs links to the listings you control
- A factual About page: year founded, what you make, certifications held, export markets you can name
- Founder and leadership profiles that match LinkedIn
I test this on myself. I have a Wikidata entry (Q141685180) and an ORCID iD, and my About page markup links to them alongside LinkedIn and Crunchbase. That setup is why an AI assistant asked about me tends to describe the same person with the same background. A Wikidata item is only right for a company that meets Wikidata's notability rules; for most firms, consistent listings matter more. My entity SEO page explains the full scope.
My prompt test, step by step
I measure AI visibility the way a buyer would experience it: by asking. Here is the routine I run for a Kanpur manufacturer.
- Step 1 · Week 1
Agree the buyer questions
We list questions by buyer type: importer, domestic distributor, procurement team. For example, "chrome-free leather tannery in Uttar Pradesh with export certification" or "Kanpur mein industrial packaging supplier".
- Step 2 · Weeks 1–2
Record the baseline
Every question goes into each engine, logged-out where possible and from an Indian location. I note: are you named, are you cited, which competitor is named, which page is the source, and is anything false.
- Step 3 · Weeks 2–10
Repair the sources
Crawler access, capability pages, spec tables in HTML, FAQ sections with direct answers, schema that matches visible text, and corrections on listings that disagree with your site.
- Step 4 · Every month
Repeat and compare
Same questions, same engines. AI answers vary from run to run, so a change counts only when it holds across repeated runs.
This log becomes your evidence. You'll see the actual wording each engine used, not a score from a tool you can't audit.
AI SEO fees for Kanpur companies
Pricing is the same as for my Madhya Pradesh clients. Most B2B firms start with the AI visibility layer and an audit, then decide on full SEO.
| Item | Price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| AI visibility layer: schema, entity clean-up, monthly prompt tests | ₹8,000 – ₹15,000 / month | Good fit for exporters whose site already ranks in normal search |
| Full SEO for a growing B2B company | ₹25,000 – ₹60,000 / month | Product and capability pages, technical SEO, content for buyer questions |
| Single-location local SEO (factory outlet, showroom) | ₹12,000 – ₹25,000 / month | Business Profile, local pages, citations |
| Competitor gap analysis | ₹4,000 one-time | Compares your AI and search presence with competitors you name |
Fees exclude paid tools and translation of catalogues into other languages. See SEO pricing in India for every band.
Why a Kanpur firm doesn't need a Kanpur consultant for this
Honestly, for AI search work the consultant's location is irrelevant. The engines read web pages and listings; I edit and test those from Damoh. What a Kanpur firm needs is access to its CMS, Search Console and Business Profile, and a person on its side who can confirm facts quickly.
I don't list a Kanpur address, and if you see an AI SEO provider claiming a local office, it's worth checking whether anyone is actually there. My working pattern is simple: a video call to start, a monthly review call, WhatsApp in between, and documents in your own Google Drive so nothing is locked with me if we stop.
What nobody can promise you about AI answers
I can't promise a citation. These engines decide their own sources, personalise answers and change behaviour without notice. What I can promise is method: your facts will be accurate and readable, the bots will have access, and you'll see exactly what the engines say each month.
I also won't fix old negative coverage by hiding it. If the Jajmau closures or a past dispute show up in answers, the honest response is current, verifiable information on your site and listings, not suppression.
Who should look elsewhere
- Companies that need someone on the factory floor for photography, video or trade-fair support.
- Firms that want to appear in AI answers for markets they don't actually serve.
- Anyone wanting fake buyer reviews, paid 'top supplier' listicles or link schemes.
- Teams that can't give access to the website or approve fact changes within a couple of weeks.
Kanpur AI SEO: common questions
List the questions your buyers ask, and I'll test them
WhatsApp me your company name and the products you want buyers to find. I'll suggest the first prompts to test and tell you whether the AI visibility layer or a basic audit should come first.
